Top 5 Family - Square Cow Moovers

Moving to Houston during the summer is one way to keep kids busy when they’re out of school. Houston is a very family-friendly city that’s packed with summer events both kids and parents will enjoy.

Here are five of our top picks for family-friendly summer events you won’t want to miss.

Miller Outdoor Theatre Children’s Performances

When: May, June and July (dates vary)

Where: Miller Outdoor Theatre

Get the kiddos away from screens and immersed in culture every summer at the Miller Outdoor Theatre. Each year the theater puts on a variety of children’s performances. This year the performances include Moving Myths: Storytelling Through Dance, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Houston Young Artist Concert and Express Theatre’s Hilltop Festival for Children: Freedom Train.

Super Hero Day at Minute Maid Park

When: June 24th

Where: Minute Maid Park

The Houston Astros have a number of promotional events during the 2018 season, but few games will be as fun as Super Hero Day on June 24th. Attendees will get a Marvel Super Hero Lithos Comic Poster and are encouraged to dress up like their favorite character. Fans can meet and take pictures with their favorite comic book hero before the game. Kids age 5-12 also get to feel like a super hero running the bases after the game.

If you can’t make it out on Super Hero Day, get down to Minute Maid Park on July 8th for Kid’s Day.

Movie Nights at Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier

When: Sundays during June, July and August

Where: Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier

The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier has been an iconic family-friendly spot for decades. This summer you can bring the family to the pier on Sunday for the free movie nights. All the movies are kid-friendly and you can try a few rides while you’re there.

Red, Hot and Blue Festival & Fireworks Extravaganza

When: July 4th

Where: Town Green Park, The Woodlands

There are a handful of great Fourth of July events in the Houston area, but one of the most memorable is the Red, Hot and Blue Festival & Fireworks Extravaganza in The Woodlands. Some holiday events are all about beer and adult music, but this one is geared towards juice pouches and the kiddos. There are children’s activities, parks to play in and an amazing 18-minute fireworks display.

Family Nature Nights

When: TBA

Where: Nature Discovery Center

Learning and fun converge during the summer Family Nature Nights at the Nature Discovery Center. Each event will include animal encounters, guided tours, snacks and crafts. Last year the Family Nature Nights included reptiles, snakes and Texas turtles.
