In November we moseyed on down to the Palmer Events Center to help Settlement Home for Children with their 39th annual Garage & Estate Sale. Last year the team lent a helping hoof, and we had such a great time there was no question about whether we’d participate again this year.
Square Cow Movers brought three trucks and eight burly moving guys to help out for two days. Unfortunately, our new trucks were just a little bit too big and didn’t fit! So Longhorn Rental stepped in and donated two trucks to help out, and we rented one from Penske. Despite the setback everything went smoothly. Our movers carted donated goods to the venue and helped set up the 20 “departments”. It was a lot of work, but it paid off big time. Thousands of shoppers came by and enjoyed a long weekend of great deals.
Huge Success for the Settlement Home for Children
The Settlement Home for Children Garage & Estate Sale is one of Austin’s biggest charity events. A full 100% of the proceeds go to The Settlement Home for Children so they can keep doing their good work throughout the entire year. For nearly 100 years the organization has been assisting local children in need that have experienced abuse, trauma and neglect. They offer numerous programs including foster and adoption services.
During the 2014 event more than 25,000 shoppers came by the 3-day sale to get great deals and help out a worthy cause. At the end of the Garage & Estate Sale The Settlement Home for Children netted $605,279! People in need were also able to use vouchers from the Giving for Living program to get much-needed items like home goods and clothing. It was an amazing success, and The Settlement Home for Children is already gearing up for the 40th annual sale starting in January 2015.
