Parenting Tips for 2016

Parenting is perhaps one of the most joyful, but also one of the hardest jobs out there.  We know you wouldn’t trade your kiddos for anything, but there are times when selling them to the circus may seem like the best option.  We hope that by trying some of these parenting hacks, your 2016 will go a little smoother.

Chores Unlock the Wi-Fi Password

Older kids may not be the most enthused about doing a few daily chores. However, if you make chores the key to unlocking the Wi-Fi password, kids may become much more inclined to complete their tasks!  The downside is changing the Wi-Fi password daily, but your kids will benefit from less screen time.

Two Options Trick

This may not work for every age, but when a kid feels like he has a choice, he will be more likely to comply.  Present two options to your child: “Would you rather unload the dishwasher or take out the trash?”  Instead of a direct command, your kid will have a little more free will.

Unlimited Bedtime

If after your second glass of water and your third story, the kiddos still don’t want to go to bed, implement an unlimited bedtime!  Kids can stay up as late as they want—the catch: they must either clean or go to bed.  There is always something that needs to be cleaned, little ones are the perfect height for dusting the baseboards.  Bedtime will no longer be a battlefield.

Snap a Pic Before the Park

If your family will be embarking on an outing to an amusement park or a busy event, take a quick picture of each child.  In case someone gets lost, you will have an up-to-date photo and can describe exactly what your kid is wearing.

Cookie Cutters Transform Sandwiches

Peanut butter and jelly becomes infinitely more special when it is in the shape of a bear or favorite character.

Implement a Toy Rotation

A great time to implement a toy rotation would be after Christmas, a move or cleaning out clutter.  Kids can’t play with everything they own all the time.  Pack a way a few boxes or bags of toys for a few months, then bring them back out.  Kids will love playing with their “new” toys.  This will also cut down on toy clutter!

Unhook a Gaming Controller

Older siblings may use this trick too!  A controller that is not hooked up will make a young child or sibling feel like they are playing too.

We hope you can use some of these parenting hacks along with a few of your own!
