Fathers Day BBQ

Last year we gave you some great gift ideas for Dad, but this year we want to focus on experiences that are specific to the Austin and Houston areas.  Dad can only wear so many neckties and by his 37th grilling accessory, he may be ready to start a different collection.  One finite quantity that everyone possesses is time, so why not give Dad a few more moments of your time this year?

Austin

The Ultimate Gift – There are a few things a man wouldn’t do for really great BBQ.  Waiting in line for hours on end isn’t one of them.  Franklin’s BBQ has topped almost every “best BBQ” list there is. Both the BBQ and the line are legendary, there is even a Twitter account specifically dedicated to the length of the Franklin’s BBQ line!  This Father’s Day take one for the team and stand in line for a few hours so your Dad doesn’t have to.  Finally, your father will have the opportunity to try this famous food.

Brewery Tour – A great way to expand Dad’s beer palette is with a brewery tour!  Get outside of the city limits for a little bit with a trip down 290 towards Dripping Springs.  Jester King Brewery is a picturesque spot that will not disappoint anyone in your group.

Handy Wheels- If time is one of the greatest gifts that you can give, team up with your Dad to give some time to others.  Giving back together is an amazing way to spend a Saturday.  If one of your Dad’s strengths is being handy around the house, go help others through Handy Wheels.  Handy Wheels is a division of Meals on Wheels that helps pair volunteers with seniors that might need some extra help like a light bulb changed or a grip bar installed.  Find out more here.

Houston

Johnny’s daddy was taking him fishing… but this year you can take Dad fishing in the Houston area!  Texas Parks and Wildlife has a great “Take Me Fishing” map that shows you all the places where you can fish in the Houston area.  If you want to sign up for some serious fishing hire a guide and go further south to Freeport, Galveston or Matagorda.  If you want to take some little ones fishing considering a shorter trip to Mary Jo Peckham Park in Katy.

Take me out the ball game… but this time you will be the one treating Dad to a Houston Astros baseball game.  Check out the schedule here and buy some peanuts and cracker jacks.

He’s gone country…if your Dad is a country music fan we heard that both Rascall Flatts and Tim McGraw are coming the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands in July and August!

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads and father figures out there!
