Every holiday season, the city of Austin comes together to support worthy charities that work to make the winter months easier for kids in need. One of the biggest fundraising events is the Junior League of Austin’s Coats for Kids community project.

The Annual Coats for Kids Community Project

When they say it’s a community project, they mean it! Everyone from local businesses to schools to individuals gets involved to make the Coats for Kids fundraiser an annual success. At the helm is the Junior League of Austin, a nonprofit that was formed in 1934. The women that make up the JLA are dedicated to improving the lives of people in Austin.

In addition to help from its 2,200 members and thousands of local residents, the Junior League of Austin has partnered with the organizations below to make Coats for Kids possible:

This year, Square Cow Movers is also providing their help and expertise to Coats for Kids. The guys will be supplying two trucks and some heavy lifters to load, unload and drive items to and from the Parmer Events Center. Keep reading to learn how you can help out too.

Ways You Can Help with this Year’s Coats for Kids

The Coats for Kids Distribution Day is fast approaching, but there’s plenty of time left to join Square Cow Movers in helping this worthy cause.

Volunteer

Sorting Week

From Dec. 10-13, the Parmer Events Center will be transformed into one huge coat rack. With more than 30,000 coats expected to be donated this year, the Junior League of Austin is going to need a lot of help getting everything ready for Distribution Day.

Volunteers that are 15 years or older are needed to help sort, organize and hang coats in the days leading up to the big Distribution Day. Work will take place at the Parmer Events Center.

Youth Sorting Night

On Dec. 10th, kids as young as 7-years-old can come out to help get everything sorted for the big day. Volunteer hours will be between 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Parmer Events Center.

Distribution Day

Distribution Day is set for Dec. 14th, and it’s sure to be busy. People 18 years or older are needed as volunteers to help distribute the coats during the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Parmer Events Center. You’ll get to help kids and their parents find the special winter coat that will keep them warm through the winter.

Coat Drive Competition

Until Dec. 6th, the School Competition Coats Collection will be underway. All you have to do is bring coats by a Jack Brown Cleaners and let them know which school it’s for.

Community Coat Drive

The Community Coat Drive will be going on until Dec. 11th. New and gently used coats can be dropped off at any Jack Brown Cleaners location.

Donate

Any time of year you can make donations to the Coats for Kids charity. All it takes is $15 for a new coat that will provide a child with cover from the cold. Donations can be made online.
