Your month-long marathon of preparing for a move isn’t over! Two weeks before a move is when you should really start to crank things up, but don’t panic. If you have been following the checklists for week one and week two, this checklist for week three will keep you on track.
- Collect/ Return- Sometimes all your possessions aren’t contained in just your home. Pick-up any dry cleaning, clear out your locker at the local gym and return any library books. While you’re packing your DVD collection, return any DVDs that you borrowed from a friend (they will appreciate it). Mail back your Netflix DVDs and finally return that oversized sweater that has been riding around in the back of your car to the store.
- Stock Up- Do you have enough of your prescription medicine left to get you through the move. Shop for some extra tape for your moving boxes and some extra toilet paper (just to be on the safe side).
- Back Up- So much of modern life happens on a computer, ensure that your photos and documents are safe before the move by backing up all your computers.
- Cancel/ Transfer Utilities- Make sure that all your utilities and services: gas, water, electricity, garbage, cable and internet are discontinued at your old residence and forwarded to your new home. Bonus points if you can get everyone to show up on the same day so you aren’t waiting around from 12PM to 5PM on multiple days.
