Purple Blues

Our physical surroundings influence us in subtle ways.  A darkened bedroom may make us feel more peaceful and calm while an open, clutter-free space inspires creativity.  A desire to change our environment reflects a need to experience something new.  Whether you are planning a large remodel in 2017 or simply want a few new home decor accent pieces, these are some of the forecasted home trends for 2017.

Colors of 2017

Each year paint companies name a color of the year for their brand.  These are the trending paint colors for 2017 by brand!

Sherwin Williams – Poised Taupe

Sherwin Williams describes their color of the year as “earthen brown combined with conservative grey” to create “a weathered, woodsy and complex neutral that celebrates the imperfections and authenticity of a well-lived life”.

Benjamin Moore – Shadow

Benjamin Moore characterizes Shadow as “allusive and enigmatic — a master of ambiance” and a “rich, royal amethyst that can fade into the soft lilac-grey of distant mountains”.

Glidden – Byzantine Blue

Byzantine Blue is explained as “a playful yet peaceful purple”.

Olympic – Cloudberry

Cloudberry is defined as bordering on violet.

Many of the colors of the year evoke shades of purples and lavenders.  Grey has been a very popular interior color and it makes sense that trend forecasters would elegantly branch out from the grey color family to include the purple hues.

Terrazzo

Trend forecasters are predicting that Terrazzo, a polished composite material with a distinctive speckled look, will edge out marble.  The material can be used as a floor or wall surface and was prominent in mid-century design.

Cladding

This architectural detail from another past era is back.  Popular in the 1970s, cladding is a covering or coating on a structure or material.  Cladding can be rendered in stone, wooden decorative paneling or even staggered 3D tiles.

Terracota

Multiple sources are citing Terracota as a popular home trend for 2017.  Inspired by Mediterranean vibes, it is predicted that sublime, unglazed, natural Terracotta tiles in contemporary shapes will dominate the home scene next year.

Cork

Cork is another material that is predicted to become a 2017 trend.  This material is ideal for open plan living as it absorbs noise and can be used on floors, walls and furniture.

Maps

Large graphic and typographic prints will be taking a backseat to maps of all varieties—vintage, modern, fantastical and real. Frame a map of your hometown as a reminder of “home” if you move to a new city.
