Living in University Park
The city of University Park Dallas is an affluent area just north of the city center. It got its name because it’s home to Southern Methodist University (SMU). SMU is considered the ‘Ivy of the South’ and has one of the most beautiful campuses in Texas. One place you’ll definitely want to stop by while at SMU is Meadows Museum. It has one of the best art collections in Dallas and astounding exhibits.
The city is also known for excellent education at the lower levels. University Park is a part of the Highland independent school district, a nationally recognized ISD. The four elementary schools in the district have exemplary ratings on GreatSchools.org, and Highland Park High School has a perfect 10 out of out, which is fantastic for a secondary school.
Driving around you’ll see a number of stately new homes with manicured lawns among the beautiful historic buildings. There are also impressive estates, century-old cottages and modern architectural gems to call home. It’s hard to believe this picturesque residential community is just five minutes from downtown Dallas.
University Park is a small city, but green space is a top priority. There are more than 20 parks that can be used for sporting events, biking, jogging or playing with the kids and pets.
Some of the best restaurants and bars in University Park Dallas are located in North Park Center. While there you can see more artwork from world-famous artists like Andy Warhol. Snider Plaza is another popular shopping and dining destination for the locals.
Getting Around University Park
University Park is a very walkable city. You’ll see people out and about walking or jogging all day. It’s also possible to get basically anywhere by bike. Hop on the Katy Trail and you can bike the 3.5 miles down to the center of Dallas.
