What does a cow drink on a hot day?  Le-MOO-nade!  With highs in the 80s this weekend, it looks like we will be drinking a lot of Le-moo-nade on Sunday, May 5th, Lemonade Day Austin.  Lemonade Day is an international event occurring in cities throughout Canada and the United States, including Austin.

This is more than just a chance to buy some refreshing lemonade, Lemonade Day is a great educational opportunity to help introduce your young calves to entrepreneurship and related fields of study.  Encouraging your child to set up a micro-business in the form of a lemonade stand will help you to introduce concepts like financial literacy, budgeting, economics, supply & demand, return on investment, critical thinking, teamwork, problem solving, presentation skills, leadership, self-direction, time management, etc.  Kids who participate in Lemonade Day keep their profits, but are also encouraged to “save some” and “share some”.  Through sharing, children can learn about giving back to the community, and through saving, kids can learn about goal-setting.

Setting up a lemonade stand is a time-honored tradition, but by participating in Lemonade Day Austin, you can take advantage of other resources, such as supplemental educational material, a personalized website for your child’s lemonade stand, and the publicity surrounding this event.  For more information: http://austin.lemonadeday.org/city-story/
