Have you considered microchipping your pet?  A microchip goes beyond the basic engravable tags, by giving your pet a permanent number.  During the busy hustle and bustle of a move a dog or cat could be lost.  A microchip would make the possibility of finding your pet much greater.  After you move, you don’t have to make new tags for your pet, all you have to do is change your address online.  Many people misunderstand that microchips do not act as a GPS tracker, rather the microchip is simply a permanent number.  If your pet is ever lost or stolen (hopefully never) any animal shelter or vet can use a handheld scanner to find your pet’s id number.  The ID is linked to your personal information so you can be contacted in the event that you are separated from you pet.  Your pet does not have to undergo a serious surgery to be implanted with a microchip, they receive the equivalent of a shot and the procedure is completed. If your cat or dog does not already have microchip, moving would be a great time to consider this permanent form of ID for your pet.
