Texas Wedding

We love weddings, who wouldn’t?  Saying you don’t like weddings is like saying you don’t like families or love or happy endings or parties or dancing or free food or free booze (mooze).  As wedding lovers, we can’t think of a better time or place to celebrate than a summer wedding in Texas!

Here is how to Texas-ize your wedding!

-Chairs for guests to sit in during the wedding ceremony, lined up in orderly rows and divided into a bride’s side and a groom’s side, is something you have probably seen at most weddings. But if you really want to add some Texas flair to your wedding, ditch the chairs and bring in the hay bales!  This is one wedding tip that is cow-approved and sure to set a very different tone for your Texas wedding.  Cover the hay bales with quilts so the hay won’t itch or poke your guests.

-If you want to have a more informal country style reception, have a picnic!  Save some money on table and chair rentals by spreading quilts across the grass.  Kids can run around and play freely while adults will enjoy a relaxed reception.

-A game of horseshoes is a fun activity to entertain guests during the reception while also adding a touch of Texas whimsy.

-We need more cowbell!  Give mini-cowbells as wedding favors so guests can “ring” for a kiss!

-Burlap, mason jars, twine, rustic wood signs and tree ring centerpieces are elements you can add to any wedding to make it more country.

-When in doubt wear cowboy boots! Cowboy boots go with everything, even a bridal gown.  For a special touch write a message on the bottom of your boots like “I Do” or your initials.  You can’t get more Texas than wearing cowboy boots while getting hitched!

The other reason why we love weddings is because a marriage signifies the beginning of a new family.  After a wedding the bride and groom will moove-in together and start their very own happily ever after story.  Read on for some tips for newlyweds moving-in together for the first time!

-You both come from different families that have distinct customs and ways of operating.  Don’t expect your relationship and dynamics with your spouse to work the same way it did in your family or origin.  Work on creating new traditions for your new family!

-Eat first!  If you ever feel a fight coming on, make sure it’s not because one partner is hungry.  You will be surprised how a full stomach can change your perspective on an argument.  Avoid being hangry, hunger can turn a molehill into a mountain.

-Discuss spheres of responsibility.  Don’t automatically assume that your spouse will be responsible for all outdoor chores like mowing and car maintenance, while you take on the laundry and cooking. If you each decide upon your preferred chores and responsibilities, you will avoid arguments over whose turn it is to take out the trash.

-Make room.  Make space for your spouse to have half the closet, make space for your partner’s favorite snacks in the pantry, make space in the garage or spare room for your love’s record collection or kayak, make room for each other at the end of the day, make room in your mind for new ideas and ways of doing things and make room in your heart for more love to grow!
