SCM Fourth of July

Summer is one of the busiest times of the year for us Texas movers, but the 4th of July is a wonderful summer moment because it gives everyone an opportunity to press pause.  While we enjoy grilling out, swimming and watching the fireworks with all of our friends and family, we also try to take a second to contemplate the meaning and significance of this uniquely American holiday.  Whether it’s fun you are seeking or a more serious celebration, check out the 4th of July events happening around the Houston and Austin areas.  Take a break from the 4th of July traffic and crowds in the big city centers of Austin and Houston and participate in one of these smaller local celebrations!

Lakeway

The city of Lakeway may not have fireworks this year due to drought conditions, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a day long celebration.  This year’s parade theme is “Saluting Citizen soldiers”.  The festive parade will wind down Lakeway drive from the Live Oak Golf course to the Lakeway Activity Center.  After the parade view the Pageant of Flags and listen to a keynote address by Grand Marshals, Col. Richard Adams USANG and Col. Kristine Shelstad, USANG.  Later on there will be a Block Party featuring music by The Loose Wheels!  For more information: http://www.cityoflakeway.com/index.aspx?nid=315

Cedar Park

You have an opportunity to make history in Cedar Park by participating in their first ever Independence Day Parade at 10 AM.  The parade will proceed down Discovery Boulevard to the Cedar Park Recreation Center.  An entire day’s worth of 4th of July events including bingo, live music, a fireworks display, a washer tournament, air castles, carnival games and hamster balls are planned at Milburn Park.  For more information: http://www.cedarparktexas.gov/index.aspx?page=446

The Woodlands

The Woodlands might have enough patriotic spirit for the entire state of Texas, with Independence Day themed celebrations spanning the entire week. Holiday events before the 4th of July in The Woodlands include: Waterway Nights at Waterway Square and the Star Spangled Salute.

On the morning of Independence Day the 4th of July Parade will march down Market Street, in the afternoon Splash Days will commence, cool off at one 14 pools and aquatic facilities around The Woodlands area each with special themes, complimentary refreshments and scheduled activities.  If you are feeling especially ducky, you can participate in the 2014 Entergy Duck Race at the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center. Swimming is free all day!

In the evening head over to Waterway Square for a free convert featuring KAOS and The Spicolis.  The Red Hot and Blue Festival and Fireworks Extravaganza will be held at Town Green Park.  For more information: http://woodlandsevents.com/things-to-do/events/annual/july-4th-the-woodlands

Katy

The Katy Freedom Celebration will take place at the Katy Mills Mall.  For the best view of the fireworks look towards the east side of the mall and Katy Fort Bend Road.  This will be a large fireworks display that can be seen from several miles around the mall area.  The fireworks will begin at dark, around 9PM.  For more information: http://cityofkaty.com/departments/parks/special-events/
