Young Woman At Outdoor Music Festival Using Mobile Phone

Are you surprised that some of the top July events in Austin revolve around music and film? If you are, you may need a reminder that Austin is the Live Music Capital of the World and is the host city to numerous music and film festivals throughout the year.  Put these July dates on your calendar so you won’t miss out on any of the top events this month!

Blues on the Green – July 22

Blues on the Green is a summer long event with one concert every month from May to August.  Walker Lukens and Bob Schneider will perform on July 22nd.  This is a free event that starts at 8pm at Zilker Park.  Many people come to this event, so arriving earlier to get better seats is recommended.  With so many people in one place, phones and text messaging don’t always work, so if you are meeting others try to arrange a specific time and meeting spot.

Sound and Cinema – July 15, July 29

Sound and Cinema is another summer long event with two upcoming dates in July.  These combination events pair bands with classic Hollywood movies.   The movie for July 15th is “Ghostbusters” and music will be provided by Latasha and the Black Ties.  The film for July 29th is “Naked Gun” and Hard Proof will play live.  The musical performance starts at 8pm on the lawn of the Long Center.  At 9pm the movie will be played on a giant inflatable Alamo Drafthouse screen.  Food trucks also come to each Sound and Cinema event.

Zilker Summer Musical : Hairspray- July 10 – August 15

Every summer Zilker Theatre Productions puts on a free musical for the public.  The musical for summer 2015 is Hairspray. The performance takes place every Thursday through Sunday night at 8:30pm at the Zilker Hillside Theater.  Don’t forget to bring $5 to park in Zilker Park.

Austin Symphony Summer Concerts in the Park- July 12, July 19, July 26

Every Sunday at 7:30pm a different ensemble of the Austin Symphony will play at Hartman Park at the Long Center.  These concerts are free to the public.  On July 12th the Brass will play, followed by the Woodwinds on July 19th, and the Big Band will complete the July concert series on July 26th.

We hope you will enjoy some of these great free events with your friends and family members this summer!
