Pieous

Just because you live in the suburbs in South Austin, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy delicious and highly rated restaurants. In fact, you may enjoy the fact that you can eat a great meal without the downtown wait and hassle of searching for a parking spot.

Pieous

12005 U.S. 290 West

Austin, TX 78737

(512) 394-7041

Hands down the best pizza in Austin!  This place is so good, they don’t even have to worry about answering their phone.  So don’t try calling, because all you will get is a recording.  They make everything by hand and from scratch- from the pizza dough to the mozzarella.  Don’t forget to try the cheesecake for dessert, it is amazing.  This is a little bit of a drive, for even those who live in the suburbs like Circle C, but it is well worth the trip down 290 to Dripping Springs to get a taste of this pizza.

St. Phillip Pizza Parlor + Bakeshop

4715 South Lamar Boulevard

Sunset Valley, TX 78745

(512) 358-7445

This restaurant is part of the Uchi family, so when it opened in October, everyone had high expectations.  Their expectations were met.  St. Phillip’s doesn’t disappoint.  The interior is stylish and on trend, but still welcoming and home.  The service is top-notch with very attentive waiters.  The small plates and sides are the best!  Order the broccolini and cauliflower.  They also have a bakery, pizzas and sandwiches.

Jack Allen’s Kitchen

7720 Texas 71

Austin, TX 78735

(512) 852-8558

The chef, Jack Allen, is one of the founders of the Austin farm to table movement.  This restaurant is a staple for everyone in the area.  Jack Allen’s is so good, they even have a second location up North in Round Rock.  If you have company or guests from out-of-town, a business meeting, or a date, you take them to Jack Allen’s because you know, without fail, the food will be great.  The cuisine leans more toward home cooking and is southwest inspired. The homemade Pimiento Cheese, Ruby Red Trout Salad and Green Chile Cheese Burger are all favorites.  We would be remiss if we didn’t mention brunch on the weekends.  Just go.

Homespun

131 East Mercer Street

Dripping Springs, TX 78620

(512) 829-4064

This is somewhat of a hidden gem out in Dripping Springs.  This is another restaurant that subscribes to the farm to table movement, but you might find that the portions are bigger and your dollar goes farther out in Dripping Springs.  They have quaint patio seating, a slightly fancier interior and even an outdoor playscape for kids.  The menu changes seasonally, but everything is enjoyable and fresh as possible.

Summermoon Coffee

316 South Main Street

Buda, TX 78610

(512) 312-4901

Okay, so this isn’t actually a restaurant, it’s a coffee shop.  However, this adorable addition to Main Street in Buda is worth a visit.  The flavors and drinks of the new location stay true to the original location located on 1st Street in Austin, while Summermoon in Buda has a feel all it’s own.  The quaint little coffee shop is a perfect place to work or relax.

Bon appétit South Austin!
